Vito Mannone will get another chance to shine this weekend.
The Italian goalkeeper is set to resume between the posts when Blackburn visit Emirates Stadium on Sunday because Manuel Almunia is not fully fit.
The Arsenal No 1 is back in training after a chest infection but is not ready to reclaim his first-team spot. And Wenger has no qualms about picking the man who has kept three consecutive clean sheets and performed heroics at Fulham last weekend.
“Almunia is very close now, he is in full training and he is very close. But Mannone is in goal this weekend,” confirmed the manager at his pre-match press conference.
“Vito has done very well but I cannot say he has exceeded my expectations because I had never seen him play at that level in a consistent way.
“You have to accept that as long as the player is not under stress with the pressure to perform, you don’t know how he responds. And he has managed that very well.”
