Arsène Wenger admits he has told ‘white lies’ to the Press in the past - but only to protect his players.
The Arsenal manager is renowned for his straight-talking, respectful approach to all journalists. But, during Friday’s media work, he confessed that - on rare occasions and for good reasons - he had held back the truth.
"If you are asking me if I have lied to the Press to protect a player, I must say yes,” he said. “I didn't do it and feel comfortable afterwards, but I have a clear conscience because if it's for one of my players it's a good cause.
"I can't give concrete examples, but when I have lied to the Press I always speak to the player concerned beforehand to get put the story straight."Copyright 2013 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
