Justin and Gavin Hoyte have been named in the squad for Arsenal's Carling Cup tie with Newcastle this evening.

Should they both appear on the pitch at the same time, it is believed they are only the fourth pair of brothers to play in the same first-team game while at the Club.

Here are the others:

Leslie Compton (1931-52) and Denis Compton (1932-50)
They played regularly together in the years surrounding World War Two. Denis was an outside-left who only featured in 64 games for Arsenal but combined his football career by being the most dashing cricketer of his day. Leslie was a tough centre half/right back who played 279 games became the oldest post-war England debutant at 38 years and 64 days. Both won the League in 1947 and the FA Cup in 1950. He played professional cricket in the same Middlesex CCC side as his brother.

Charles Satterthwaite (1904-10) and Joe Satterthwaite (1906-08)
They only played two League games together: Manchester United (h) on March 21 1908 and Bolton (h) on April 4 the same year. In the latter game Joe got Arsenal's goal in a 1-1 his only goal in his five appearances. Charles ended up with over 50 strikes in more than 150 games.

Danny Clapton (1953-62) and Denis Clapton (1957-61)
Their only appearance together was in the 1-1 draw at Blackpool on November 19, 1960. It was the last game in the first team for Denis, a forward. Winger Danny would go on to have a record of 233 games and 30 goals.

The following pairs of brothers represented Arsenal but, as far as we are aware, did not play a first-team game together.

Robert Buist (1891-94) and George Buist (1896-97)
David Neave (1904-12) and Andrew Neave (1908-09)
Willis Rippon (1910-11) and Thomas Rippon (1911)
William Bradshaw (1900-04) and Joseph Bradshaw (1910-23)
Michael Black (1992-99) and Tommy Black (1995-200)
Valur Gislason 1996-98) and Stefan Gislason (1996-97)

Are we wrong? Are there more brothers who have played for Arsenal in the same first-team game? If you know of any more please email us here.
