Thierry Henry has hailed the role of fitness coach Tony Colbert in his triumphant return to the Arsenal side.

Henry fired home a late winner to sink Leeds United in the Third Round of the FA Cup on Monday - his 227th strike in an Arsenal shirt.

But it could have been a different story if Colbert’s training regime had not prepared the record goalscorer in time for a fairytale finish at Emirates Stadium.

“You always think that [you can still do a job], but whether or not you do always remains to be seen,” the striker said. “I just said to Tony Colbert [the fitness coach], 'look, you have to get me ready', and he did.

“I am nowhere near a 90-minute game but he did everything for me to be able to help.

“You are always going to get what you deserve if you work hard. That has always been my philosophy in the game; you have got to work hard. I would rather have the guy in my team who tries any day than the guy who doesn't want to show up. That is my mentality.”
