GunnersGaming by Betsson, Arsenal’s Official Betting Partner, give us the rundown on some of the markets on offer ahead of Wednesday’s match against Aston Villa...
The busy festive football calendar is already upon us and Arsenal will be looking to bounce straight back from Sunday’s defeat to Manchester City.
That result brought an end to their fine recent run but with another four games in the next 12 days, the Gunners will be hoping to regain that momentum and pick up the 12 points that are top of every Gooner’s Christmas list.
Arsène Wenger’s side may have lost in Manchester but they will be taking plenty of positives from a heartening performance which could have easily seen them get something out of the game. Aston Villa, on the other hand, are stuck in mid-table and find themselves under a bit of pressure, having lost their last two games at Villa Park. They have also had just 71 shots on target this season, the fewest in the Premier League.
Last season the Gunners enjoyed a 4-2 win on their trip to the West Midlands and both Andrey Arshavin and Marouane Chamakh should have fond memories of that game. It would be a big lift for both players if they were able to get themselves on the scoresheet again and they are priced at 12/5 (3.4) and 7/4 (2.75) respectively to do so.
Arsenal have not lost in their last 12 visits to Villa Park, but the last meeting between the sides was a disappointing 2-1 defeat in the final home game of last season after a Darren Bent brace. The England international has not enjoyed the most prolific of starts to the season but still has five goals to his name and the Arsenal rearguard would be well advised to deny the striker (priced at 11/5 (3.2) to score) any space in the box.
Wednesday is certain to be a hard-fought encounter and Wenger will have to shuffle his pack to cover the absences of Alex Song and Johan Djourou. That may open up the game and offer chances for both teams to score, available at 9/14 (1.66). But Arsenal should have enough to edge this one and 2-1 looks well priced at a tempting 20/3 (7.7). Or how about Arsenal to win by a single goal available, at 14/5 (3.8)?
If you are looking for good value, however, Thomas Vermaelen looks like a player determined to score. The defender is currently Arsenal’s joint-second highest scorer and was unlucky not to add to that tally against City on Sunday. Back the Belgian to find the net at 11/2 (6.5), or for even better value, for him to score first at 16/1 (17.0).
Did you know that there has never been a red card in an Arsenal v Aston Villa Premier League game? Bet on that to continue at 1/8 (1.13)
