Robin van Persie... his goal after 15 mins and 27 seconds is the quickest of Arsenal's season

55 goals but none in the opening 15 minutes

By Richard Clarke

Goals have been a feature of Arsenal's campaign.

Arsène Wenger's side have hit the net 55 times in 19 games so far and have set Premier League records for their early-season attacking. Their top-flight tally of 37 is seven more than any other team.

But, with almost a third of the season gone, Arsenal have yet to register in the first 15 minutes of any game.

The graph below shows the omission in their scoring-rate. In contrast, the other 78 per cent of the game has received a relatively even spread of goals and, speaking to Arsenal.com, even the manager was struggling to explain the situation.

"To be honest I don't really know why this has happened," said Wenger. "Maybe the teams focus against defending well against us and it takes us time to open them up. We have a style not based on force but on technique."
