Gnabry - We’ve got belief at the back

Serge Gnabry says an increase in belief at the back has given Arsenal Under-21s the platform on which to attack with freedom.

Only an unfortunate Nico Yennaris own goal prevented Steve Gatting’s side from beating West Ham United on Friday night, after they began the week with a 2-0 win against Southampton at Underhill.

"I was only a few inches away from winning it. Sometimes it goes in and sometimes it bounces away. It was unlucky but I probably should have scored"

Gnabry believes that clean sheet has had a positive effect on confidence within the team, and feels they were unfortunate not to leave the Boleyn Ground with three points after he hit the post in stoppage time.

“I think, first of all, we demanded the game,” he told Arsenal.com. “We went 1-0 up and they equalised through an unlucky own goal. Then the game dropped a bit but in the last 20 minutes we were pressing and could have won it late on.

“I was only a few inches away from winning it. Sometimes it goes in and sometimes it bounces away. It was unlucky but I probably should have scored.

“We’re in good form at the moment. We’ve had two clean sheets coming into the game, which gives us a lot of belief that we can play without conceding a goal. We need to take the point away from here and focus on the next game.
