Olivier Giroud says the physical nature of the Premier League was a deciding factor in his decision to join Arsenal last summer.
The 26-year-old is in fine form and scored his second brace in the space of three days at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
I had a difficult couple of weeks. I didn’t play a lot so I had to keep confident
Giroud caused plenty of problems for the Championship side's centre halves, and admits he relishes those battles with defenders.
“That’s why I chose this championship,” he said. “There is more intensity, it’s more physical and you have to be ready in an athletic way.
“I like it but I like to pass and play one-twos with my team-mates like Lukas, Santi, Theo and Tomas. I like to play with these guys and there is a good understanding between us. I feel very nice in the game.
“I had a difficult couple of weeks. I didn’t play a lot so I had to keep confident and keep going. It’s important to me to score two times in both matches."
Arsenal welcome both Liverpool and Stoke City to the Emirates this week, and Giroud is targeting those games as a chance to make up points on fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
“We want six points against Liverpool and Stoke City to reach Tottenham," he said. "We look forward and want to reach fourth place, and after, play and see."Copyright 2017 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
