Gilberto is painfully aware that Arsenal must produce a "quick reaction" to their defeat against West Ham at Newcastle on Easter Monday.
The stand-in captain believes his side are still in a "comfortable situation" in terms of Champions League qualification. However another disappointment at St. James' Park will set up a huge game at Emirates Stadium next Saturday when Bolton, Arsenal's main contenders for fourth place, come to visit.
"It is still in our hands," said Gilberto. "It is up to us to win the games ahead of us.
"We are in a quite comfortable situation to achieve our targets and our target at the moment is to qualify for the Champions League.
"Newcastle will be a crucial game for us now because we have struggled in our last two games.
"It is our game in hand on Bolton and it will be very important for us to come back with three points.
"That will give us a bit more belief for our next game [against Bolton] and we will not be under as big pressure. It is up to us. Everything is in our hands to change the situation.
"We need to look critically at ourselves after the West Ham defeat. If we create four or five chances and miss, we can say 'it is normal'. But with the chances we created today....
"We need to push ourselves and do a little bit more. We are trying. The good point is that everyone wants the ball to change the situation. We need to do a little bit more to achieve our targets."
"We have now suffered two defeats but we need to look forward and do much better."
