When Arsenal kick off their pre-season campaign against a Malaysia XI on Wednesday, Emmanuel Frimpong will be looking to make his mark.

The tenacious midfielder was one of the stars of pre-season last summer and seemed destined to make inroads into the first team before a serious knee injury halted his progress.

Frimpong is one of the younger members of the squad that has travelled to Asia and he knows the games in the Far East present him with a chance to play his way into Arsène Wenger’s plans ahead of the new season.

“It’s a big opportunity for me to show what I can do,” he told Arsenal.com. “I’m here to try and get in the team and show the manager what I can do so hopefully it all goes well.

“The more time I spend on the pitch, the more confident I feel. I’m still not 100 per cent fit but that will come, I just have to be patient.”

The full interview with Emmanuel is now available on Arsenal Player. He discusses: pre-season training, making up for lost time, getting stronger with every session and the opportunity to show what he can do.
