Emmanuel Frimpong wants to play as much as possible this season and the combative midfielder might get his chance to impress against Liverpool on Saturday.

Alex Song starts his three-game suspension this weekend and, with Jack Wilshere also doubtful with an ankle injury, the 19-year-old appears the natural replacement as Arsenal’s defensive shield.

Frimpong was a substitute against Newcastle and Udinese, with Arsène Wenger looking to shore things up late on, but he could get an opportunity from the start when Kenny Dalglish’s men come to the Emirates.

“I just want to be involved as much as possible,” Frimpong told Arsenal Player.

“It is going to be hard because there are so many players at Arsenal but hopefully I can play as many games as I can. It is difficult because I am at a very big club and I have got to be patient."

Frimpong linked up strongly with the first-team squad during pre-season and has sensed a desire among the players to right the wrongs of last season’s disappointments.

“It’s a new season, a new start and an opportunity for us to show what we can do,” he said.

“Obviously there was a lot of disappointment last year but there is an opportunity to put that right. I have to say, everyone is confident that this is going to be a good season.”

The full interview with Emmanuel is now available on Arsenal Player. He discusses: his aims for the season ahead, the Club's tour of Asia, his pre-season and Arsenal's new arrivals.
