Emmanuel Frimpong intends to use past experience to help him bounce back strongly from the injury that has curtailed his season.
The all-action midfielder had truly found his Premier League feet during a loan spell at Wolves when he suffered a cruciate injury in a match against QPR - in the opposite knee to a similar problem that ruled him out during 2010/11.
Speaking in Sunday’s Official Matchday programme, Frimpong said: “All I can remember is that [QPR midfielder] Joey Barton got the ball and was looking to switch play - I went to block him from doing that and my feet just got stuck, twisting my leg.
"The Doctor told me I’d done my cruciate and obviously I was devastated, but I’ve had this injury before and come back to play football so I’m sure things will be fine.
“When it happened the first time around I was more angry and upset than this time for some reason. From the first day, I accepted that I’ll be out for quite a long time and that I’m going to have to get on with it. For now it’s all about getting the swelling down and trying to make things more comfortable.
"I don’t have any targets in mind for a comeback – when it gets closer, perhaps when I start jogging, then maybe I’ll do that but at the moment I know that I’m in for a long, long journey and have to be patient.”
Frimpong's injury came just as the 20 year-old had established himself as a key player in the Black Country side. He says that the move to Wolves was still a hugely productive one.
“As a footballer you sometimes have to make decisions, and I think going to Wolves was probably the best thing I could have done,” he said.
“They may not have been doing too well, but the manager [ex-manager Mick McCarthy] was very good to me - I think it’s very important to go to a manager who likes you, and he showed belief in me.
“Playing every week at Wolves convinced me that I can compete at the highest level.”
