Arsène Wenger... manager believes that measures would reduce unjust decisions

Frenchman calls for "tennis-style challenges"

By Declan Taylor

Arsène Wenger believes that English football would benefit from the introduction of tennis-style ‘challenges’.

Tennis players are given a set number of opportunities where they can ask the referee to review contentious decisions by video. The manager thinks that a similar measure in football would add a new tactical dimension to every manager’s job.

“I am big time in favour of video,” said Wenger at Thursday’s AGM. “I want to see the number of unjust decisions reduced as quickly as possible.

“I think there should be a possibility to challenge a decision like in tennis for example. Perhaps each manager gets two opportunities per half to test a decision. It would add something to the tactical input of a manager during the game because you would have to use these decisions at the right moment."
