QPR 0-6 ARSENAL
FA Cup fourth round
January 27, 2001
Today's FreezeFrame takes us back to January 2001 and a comfortable win in Arsenal's march towards the FA Cup final.
Arsène Wenger's side had endured a difficult period in the lead-up to Christmas and were struggling to keep pace with Manchester United in the Premier League.
The New Year started with a defeat at Charlton, and successive draws against Chelsea and Leicester further hit their title bid, but a narrow 1-0 victory at Carlisle in the third round set up this FA Cup clash at Loftus Road.
Despite their indifferent form, Wenger's side made short work of QPR and were helped on their way by a 32nd-minute own goal by Chris Plummer.
Sylvain Wiltord doubled the visitors' advantage within a minute, before another own goal - this time by QPR defender and former Gunner Matthew Rose - made it 3-0 shortly after half time.
By now Arsenal were in complete control and Wiltord crashed home a fourth on 56 minutes, before Robert Pires added another two minutes later. The rout was completed by Dennis Bergkamp in the 74th minute as Wenger's side stormed into the fifth round.
The comprehensive nature of the victory lifted morale and saw the Gunners embark on a six-game winning streak, a run which included their FA Cup fifth-round victory against Chelsea.
It was ultimately a campaign of disappointment though, as they were edged into second place in the Premier League and lost to Liverpool in the FA Cup final after two late Michael Owen goals.
Our FreezeFrame image shows Pires and Wiltord celebrating the former's 58th-minute strike at Loftus Road.
