Manchester City

MANCHESTER CITY 1-5 ARSENAL
Premier League
Maine Road
February 22, 2003

Manchester City 1 Arsenal 5? That will do very nicely on Sunday.

It goes without saying that City are a rather different prospect these days while the Arsenal side that travelled north in February 2003 was arguably the best in the Club's history.

Arsène Wenger's side 'only' won the FA Cup in 2003 but the team that would remain unbeaten and 'Invincible' the following season was in place and they were at their relentless, brilliant best on their final trip to Maine Road.

David Seaman's injury gave Stuart Taylor a chance in goal but pretty much all the action was at the other end as Arsenal shot into a four-goal lead in just 19 minutes.

Richard Dunne is now a respected Premier League defender but he was torn to ribbons by Thierry Henry, who smashed in a left-foot effort after Dennis Bergkamp and Robert Pires had put the visitors in charge.

Sol Campbell got in on the act before the 20-minute mark and Patrick Vieira raced away to score the fifth just after half-time.

Arsenal took their foot off the gas after that, so much so that Nicolas Anelka - a former Gunner of course - found room to grab a consolation with three minutes remaining.

But make no mistake: this was one of the finest displays ever seen by a travelling side in the Premier League. If Arsenal are half as good on Sunday they might leave Manchester with three more points.

Our FreezeFrame images shows Bergkamp and Pires celebrating after the opening goal, scored in the fourth minute.
