ARSENAL 4-1 FULHAM
Premier League
Highbury
February 23, 2002

If you want to know how to close out a title, watch Arsenal's class of 2002.

Not for the first time, Arsène Wenger's side found themselves in a battle with Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United for the Premier League, with Liverpool also challenging strongly.

It was anyone's crown in the February of that 2001/02 campaign but, suddenly, Arsenal went into overdrive.

They reeled off 13 consecutive victories to win the league by seven points from Liverpool - and added the FA Cup for good measure to make it another Double for Wenger.

This game, a 4-1 dismantling of Fulham, was game No 2 in that run of 13.

A glance at the Arsenal team shows that a few key men were missing but Oleg Luzhny and Igor Stepanovs stepped in at the back to make it a real squad effort.

Lauren rounded off a flowing move from close range after just five minutes and, although Steve Marlet levelled, Fulham were blown away by two more goals before the break.

Patrick Vieira got the first of them before Thierry Henry took centre stage, netting seven minutes before the break and adding another on the hour mark to secure the points.

Wenger had the luxury of bringing Henry and Robert Pires off early for some welcome rest as Arsenal cantered to victory. Before long they had cantered to the title too.

Our FreezeFrame image shows a battle between Lauren, scorer of the opening goal, and Fulham winger Luis Boa Morte, who left Arsenal for Southampton in 1999 before returning to London.

Arsenal team: Seaman, Luzhny, Campbell, Stepanovs, Lauren, Parlour, Van Bronckhorst (Dixon), Vieira, Pires (Grimandi), Wiltord, Henry (Aliadiere). Subs not used: R Wright, Edu
