Bolton Wanderers

Premier League
September 21, 2002

Arsenal were flying at the start of the 2002/03 campaign but Bolton were just seconds away from bringing Arsène Wenger's side back down to earth.

On this weekend nine years ago it all seemed to be going to plan when Thierry Henry fired the Gunners in front in the first half. The Highbury crowd settled back to enjoy an easy home win.

They were mistaken. Bolton dug deep and scored a fortunate equaliser when Gareth Farrelly's cross deceived David Seaman and dipped inside the post early in the second half.

The rest of the match was a siege. Arsenal threw everything at Bolton and Dennis Bergkamp, Kolo Toure and Francis Jeffers all entered the fray before the end.

The visitors clung on - even after Ivan Campo was dismissed ten minutes from time - but they finally cracked in stoppage time.

A long ball into the box caused consternation among the Bolton back line and Kanu pounced to prod the ball past Jussi Jaaskelainen from close range.

Highbury breathed a sigh of relief as Wenger's side extended their unbeaten start to the campaign - and returned to the top of the Premier League table.

Our FreezeFrame image captures the moment just after Kanu's strike as the Nigerian wheels away to celebrate with Henry. Jeffers is also visible behind the scorer.
