ARSENAL 1-0 BURNLEY
December 20, 1975
Arsenal and Burnley need points for very different reasons this Saturday but our latest FreezeFrame re-visits a year when both sides were embroiled in a relegation scrap.
It was 1975/76 and the Gunners were suffering a period in the wilderness between their Double triumph at the start of the decade and their hat-trick of FA Cup Finals at the end of it.
Ultimately Birmingham, Wolves and Burnley went down to Division Two while Arsenal finished in 17th place, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
In the grand scheme of things, this December win over the top flight's bottom club was a vital one.
Our image shows John Radford battling for the ball with Burnley's Colin Waldron while Alan Ball looks on from the left of the picture. And it was Radford who scored the only goal of the game to give the Highbury faithful an early Christmas present and keep the spectre of relegation at bay.
Arsenal team: Rimmer, Rice, Simpson, Kelly, Mancini, Powling, Armstrong, Ball, Radford, Kidd, Brady (Stapleton).
