Arsenal 3-0 Orient
FA Cup Semi Final
Saturday, April 8, 1978. Stamford Bridge
Scorers Macdonald (2), Rix
Arsenal and Leyton Orient will meet this weekend for the first time in 33 years.
The last time they were drawn together in the FA Cup, the O's could not live with their London rivals and went down 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in a one-side Semi-Final.
Malcolm Macdonald scored twice, both times aided by a wicked deflection, before Graham Rix completed the scoring midway through the second half.
"The match was an anti-climax," said Orient star Bobby Fisher. "We simply froze. Psychologically, against Middlesbrough in the quarter-finals we had peaked. I remember getting off the team bus thinking we were going to struggle. Physically and mentally, we were drained.
"It was the biggest game of our careers and we let ourselves down at the last hurdle."
