Born in Milan in 1970, Frankie is the son of Gianfrando Dettori, himself a prolific jockey in Italy.
Frankie has won every British classic, as well as success in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and the Dubai World Cup and in December 2000 he recieved an honorary MBE.
