The Champions League Group Stage kicks off this week with Arsenal travelling to Belgian champions Standard Liege. Also in Group H are Dutch side AZ Alkmaar and Olympiacos of Greece.

Standard Li├Ęge

Standard Liege 3-0 KV Mechelen

Standard Liege defeated KV Mechelen 3-0 in the Belgian Jupiler League on Saturday, but the result was overshadowed by an injury to Steven Defour. The key midfielder suffered a compound fracture of his first metatarsal and is set to be sidelined for a minimum of three months, ruling him out of the entire Champions League Group Stage. Mehdi Gonzalez opened the scoring for Liege with a quick-fire double nine minutes into the second half. Eliaquim Mangala added the third after 68 minutes. Liege are currently fifth in the league table, and though unbeaten this season, they have drawn four of their opening six encounters.


AZ Alkmaar

ADO Den Haaf 2-1 AZ Alkmaar

AZ Alkmaar suffered a 2-1 defeat away to ADO Den Haaf in the Dutch Eredivisie at the weekend. ADO took the lead early on, Wesley Verhoek slotting the ball between the keepers' legs four minutes in and Lex Immers doubled the advantage nine minutes after the break. Jeremain Lens pulled one back for AZ with five minutes remaining, but it was too little too late for the visitors. AZ are currently fifth with 12 points from their six games so far.

Olympiacos FC

Olympiacos 0-0 Kavala
Saturday, 12 September

Olympiacos only managed a 0-0 home draw against Kavala at the weekend. The draw at Karaiskakis Stadium leaves Temuri Ketsbaia's side five points behind Greek Super League leaders Panathinaikos.
