Sporting Gijon 1-1 FC Barcelona
Saturday, February 12
Barcelona warmed up for Wednesday’s visit to Emirates Stadium with a 1-1 draw with Sporting Gijon on Saturday. A full-strength Barca needed a late David Villa equaliser to rescue a point after Gijon had led for much of the game. It was the first time Arsenal’s Champions League opponents had failed to win in La Liga since early October. Pep Guardiola’s side went behind after 16 minutes when David Barral’s solo run and finish gave the home side a shock lead. Gijon kept Barca at bay until ten minutes from time when Villa’s deft chip levelled it up to earn a point. Barca now travel to north London for the first leg of the last-16 tie.
