FC Barcelona 2-1 Levante
Sunday, January 2
Pedro scored a brace for Barcelona to ensure they got 2011 off to a winning start with a 2-1 victory over Levante on Sunday. Lionel Messi was rested and the Catalans struggled to break down stubborn Levante resistance before the Spanish forward found the net twice to ensure an 11th straight Primera Division win. After a goalless first half, Pedro broke the deadlock with a neat finish after 47 minutes following a lay-off from Dani Alves. The pair were at it again 12 minutes later when the Brazilian teed up his team mate to lash home from outside the area and double Barca’s lead with his eighth goal of the season. Christian Stauni volleyed past Victor Valdes to make the final ten minutes interesting but Barca held on to stay clear of rivals Real Madrid, who play tonight [Monday].
