Deportivo la Coruna 0-4 FC Barcelona
Saturday, January 8
Barcelona crushed Deportivo la Coruna 4-0 on Saturday as they continued to dominate La Liga. The Catalans brushed aside their opponents with another emphatic victory that leaves them two points clear of rivals Real Madrid. David Villa put Pep Guardiola’s side ahead after 26 minutes when he latched onto a defence-splitting pass from Lionel Messi to finish through the legs of the Deportivo goalkeeper. Messi got himself on the scoresheet five minutes into the second half when he curled home an inch-perfect free kick past a motionless Aranzubia. The strike was the Argentine’s 18th league goal of the season. Andreas Iniesta brilliantly added a third after 80 minutes when he fired home from outside the area and Messi was again the creator when he fed Pedro for Barca’s fourth just a minute later.
