CSKA Moscow 2-1 Rubin
Saturday, October 14, 2006
CSKA Moscow will be without leading scorer Jô when they face
Arsenal on Tuesday night. The 19-year-old Brazilian suffered a
recurrence of a knee cartilage injury and will also miss the climax
of the Russian Premier-Liga season. CSKA's title challenge is
back on track following a 2-1 victory against Rubin on Saturday.
The Russian champions fell behind to a first-half strike from
Benachour but two goals in four second-half minutes from Zhirkov
and Dudu secured three valuable points. CSKA are two points clear
of city rivals Lokomotiv and Spartak with seven matches remaining.
Lokomotiv slipped up at home to FC Moscow while Spartak won 1-0 to
dent Zenit's title hopes. CSKA's next Premier-Liga match at
at Amkar on Saturday.
Hamburg 1-2 Schalke
Sunday, October 15, 2006
Hamburg are still without a win in the Bundesliga this season.
Thomas Doll's side lost at home to Schalke on Sunday and are
now just one point and one place off the bottom of the table.
Altintop fired Schalke ahead at the AOL Arena but Trochowski
levelled before the interval. Jarolím's red card gave
Schalke a numerical advantage and Bordon scored nine minutes into
the second half to leave Hamburg eight points adrift of Schalke and
their fellow Bundesliga pacesetter, Bayern Munich and Werder
Bremen.
FC Porto 3-0 Maritimo
Saturday, October 14, 2006
Porto got back to winning ways on Saturday with a comfortable 3-0
win against neighbours Maritimo. Helder Postiga fired the
Portuguese champions ahead 11 minutes before half time and doubled
his tally five minutes from time. Gonzalez's second-half
penalty completed the scoring as Porto bounced back from last
week's shock defeat at Braga. They lead Sporting Lisbon on goal
difference at the top of the Portuguese Liga with Braga two points
adrift in third place.
