Denmark 2-3 Portugal, Group B

Nicklas Bendtner became the first Arsenal player to score at Euro 2012 - but his brace was not enough to save Denmark from defeat against Portugal.

The Danes went into their second Group B fixture on a high after a surprise 1-0 win over Holland but they were brought crashing to earth by two first-half goals as Portugal took charge.

Pepe soared to nod home Joao Moutinho's corner at the near post after 25 minutes and Helder Postiga added a second 11 minutes later with a clinical finish from Nani's low cross.

Denmark were second best at that point but Bendtner gave them hope with a close-range header four minutes before the break. The 24-year-old picked out Lars Jacobsen on the right and his cross was nodded back across goal by Michael Krohn-Dehli for Bendtner to convert.

Cristiano Ronaldo spurned two glorious chances to secure the points for Portugal in an entertaining second half and he appeared to have paid for his profligacy when Bendtner powered in another header from Jacobsen's deep cross with 10 minutes left.

But Portugal had the last word three minutes from time when substitute Silvestre Varela crashed a shot into the bottom corner.

Bendtner and Denmark will conclude their Group B fixtures against Germany on Sunday.
