Brazil v Italy
International Friendly Match
Emirates Stadium
Tuesday, February 10, 2009. Kick-off: 7.45pm
Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that Emirates Stadium will host an International Friendly match between Brazil and Italy on Tuesday 10th February 2009.
The match will kick off at 7.45pm and the Club is pleased to announce that Arsenal members will receive the exclusive first rights on purchasing tickets for this high profile fixture.
The match will give football fans in the UK the chance to see two of the world’s greatest national teams go head-to-head. The contest promises to be an exhilarating encounter, with current World Cup holders Italy going up against Brazil, who are the most successful team in World Cup history.
Brazil and Italy have been dominant in the history of world football and boast an incredible tally of 13 World Cup Final appearances and nine World Cup victories between them.
Brazil have made seven World Cup Final appearances in their history, winning five, with Italy winning four of their six World Cup Final appearances, including their victory in the last tournament in Germany in 2006.
In fact, of the 18 World Cup tournaments staged since the inaugural competition in 1930, nine have included either Brazil or Italy in the Final, with both the 1970 and 1994 World Cup Finals being contested between the teams, Brazil winning on both occasions.
Some of the world’s best footballers will be in action at Emirates Stadium for this match. The Brazil national team currently features players such as Ronaldinho, Kaka, Lucio, Robinho and ex-Arsenal player Gilberto, with Italy boasting talent such as Luca Toni, Andrea Pirlo, Gennaro Gattuso and Fabio Cannavaro.
This match will be the fourth time that the Brazil national team has played at Emirates Stadium. The Brazil v Italy match follows the successful staging of Brazil v Argentina in September 2006, Brazil v Portugal in February 2007 and Brazil v Sweden in March 2008.
Arsenal Chairman Peter Hill-Wood said: “Everyone at Arsenal Football Club is delighted and honoured to be hosting this international match between two of the world’s greatest national teams.
“Brazil and Italy both have proud and very successful football histories and we are looking forward to welcoming the teams and many Brazilian and Italian supporters to Emirates Stadium in February.
“Some of the world’s finest footballers will be on display and we are all very excited at what is sure to be a thrilling contest.”
