Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that Emirates Stadium will host an International Friendly match between Brazil and Republic of Ireland on Tuesday 2nd March 2010.
The match will kick off at 8.05pm and the Club is pleased to announce that Arsenal members will receive the exclusive first rights on purchasing tickets for this high profile fixture.
The match will give football fans the chance to see this intriguing encounter with two of the world’s most passionate footballing nations going head-to-head.
The contest promises to be an exciting encounter, with a rejuvenated Republic of Ireland side under Giovanni Trapattoni going up against Brazil - the most successful team in World Cup history.
Those attending the match on Tuesday 2nd March will be treated to some of the world’s most exciting footballers. The Brazil national team currently features a wealth of great players such as Kaka, Luis Fabiano, Lucio and ex-Arsenal star Gilberto all likely to feature. Republic of Ireland boast talented internationals such as Shay Given, Robbie Keane and Aidan McGeady, who will also of course as always, be strongly supported by thousands of loyal Irish followers.
And an Arsenal legend will be involved in this international too. The Club’s Head of Youth Development, Liam Brady will be on the Republic of Ireland team bench for this match in his current role at Assistant Manager to Trappatoni.
This will be the fifth time that the Brazil national team has played at Emirates Stadium. The Brazil v Republic of Ireland match follows the successful staging of Brazil v Italy in February 2009, Brazil v Sweden in March 2008, Brazil v Portugal in February 2007 and Brazil v Argentina in September 2006.
Arsenal Chief Executive Officer Ivan Gazidis said: “Everyone at Arsenal Football Club is delighted to be hosting this high profile international friendly between these two proud national teams.
“Both Brazil and the Republic of Ireland have passionate football histories and we’re looking forward to welcoming thousands of Irish and Brazilian supporters, and indeed many neutral football followers to Emirates Stadium in March.
“We’re delighted that Emirates Stadium has been chosen for this international match. It’s a compliment to both the Club and our stadium that we have once again been approached to host a fixture of this magnitude, and we’re all looking forward to what is sure to be a fantastic atmosphere on the night.”
