September started badly but just got better and better for Arsenal.

Manchester City inflicted a 4-2 defeat on Arsène Wenger's side immediately after the international break and Standard Liege took a two-goal lead in the Champions League group opener but Arsenal hit back to win 3-2 - and they never looked back. Wigan were brushed aside at Emirates Stadium, the Carling Cup kids beat West Brom, Robin Van Persie grabbed a priceless winner at Fulham and was on target against against Olympiacos.

There are a number of contenders for our Player of the Month award. Vito Mannone was man of the match at Craven Cottage and Thomas Vermaelen continued his outstanding start to life in English football with two goals against Wigan. Cesc Fabregas was a key man in midfield and Jack Wilshere shone in the Carling Cup while Van Persie found his scoring boots up front.
