Johan Djourou says Arsenal must demonstrate their character and quality in Saturday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie at Sunderland.

Arsène Wenger’s squad travel to Wearside on the back of a disappointing 4-0 defeat in their Champions League last-16 first leg at AC Milan.

While the Swiss defender was hurt by the nature of the loss, he insists it is imperative to make amends at the Stadium of Light.

“We must show a different attitude. It is a big game because it is the FA Cup and we want to go far in that competition,” Djourou told Arsenal Player.

“We have to be in a different mindset and I hope we will be because as human beings you do not like to be embarrassed and not respond in the next game.”

A late Thierry Henry strike secured victory at Sunderland last week in the Premier League, but Djourou does not believe this gives Arsenal a psychological edge this time around.

“Football is always a new game: you could play 10 times against a team and there would be a lot of different results,” he said.

“We beat them last week but this one is going to be another game. But having won there, we are confident we can do it again. It is a new start.

“We have to be better than them, as we were last time. We have to show our character and quality.”
