Johan Djourou... hoping to return to training soon

Djourou - My recovery has been going well

By Chris Harris

Johan Djourou is confident he will be back to full fitness before the end of the campaign.

The Swiss defender was one of the success stories of pre-season but his steady progress was halted by a knee injury suffered on international duty. Djourou had surgery to repair the damage last August but was left under no illusions as Arsène Wenger warned him “to be patient this season".

The 23-year-old has done just that and, after a gruelling rehabilitation programme, he hopes to return to full training sooner rather than later.

"It [the injury] is coming along very well," Djourou told Arsenal TV Online, speaking after last month's Junior Gunners Forum.

"I'm very happy to actually maybe see the end of the tunnel now because it has been a rough route, it has been very hard with ups and downs. But I am working hard to get back on the field. Hopefully in a month and a half I will be back training.

"I had a good pre-season and for me it was very hard to take when I heard the news that I had to have an operation and it [the recovery] would take that long. But I think I will come back stronger because I have learned a lot.”
