Coquelin - Youth Cup whetted my appetite

Francis Coquelin says that his FA Youth Cup success in 2009 has whetted his appetite for further glory in the first team.

The French midfielder was part of the multi-talented group - which included the likes of Jack Wilshere and Emmanuel Frimpong - that beat Liverpool in the final.

Ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup fifth-round clash against Blackburn Rovers, Coquelin has set his sights on his first senior trophy.

“It [the Youth Cup] is a great memory,” he told Arsenal Player. “So far with Arsenal that is the only trophy I have won, but it was quite a big one.

“It was my first year at the Club as well, so I was really pleased we won the cup. We had some great players, and some of them are still here like Jack and Emmanuel Frimpong.

“It gives me loads of appetite, especially the way we played in the competition. I don’t think we had anyone who could match us. You could feel momentum and confidence building [through every round].

“The team had loads of confidence and we had a good friendship between us, so it was easier to play because everyone was so good with each other on and off the field.

“We wanted to push on into the first team and now I am there so obviously I want to win things here as well.”
