Francis Coquelin says a victory at Sunderland would help add to the head of steam Arsenal are building ahead of Wednesday’s clash against AC Milan.

The Gunners face a challenging week, with the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against the Italian giants sandwiched between two trips to the Stadium of Light.

The North London derby against Tottenham follows, but Coquelin is confident that Arsène Wenger’s side are hitting form right when it matters most.

“We just need to win [these big games]. We showed great character against Blackburn and we should have won against Bolton as we had the chances,” he told a Chinese fans’ webchat.

“We have Sunderland at the weekend, so we need to go on a run and win that game so we take a lot of confidence for the trip to Milan.

“We have a great team, it is getting better and better and we can get some good results over the next few weeks.”
