Gael Clichy... talking to Arsenal TV Online's Spotlight programme

Clichy: Nothing better than hearing your song

By Nick Teale

Gael Clichy says there is nothing better than hearing the fans singing his name during a game.

The 24-year-old believes that chants give the players an opportunity to hear the fans' appreciation, because they are not able to meet supporters on a day-to-day basis.

The defender, who arrived at Arsenal in 2003, has been a first-team regular over the last four seasons and recently made his 200th appearance for the Club.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online's Spotlight programme, the Frenchman said he is always delighted to hear the fans singing his name.

"It is something I am really happy with," he said. "It shows that the fans can see the work you are doing.

"Of course you are not Maradona or Pele but they appreciate the work you are doing.

"When I am on the pitch and I hear those songs and nothing can be better than that. So I really want to thank the fans. I am here because of them and all of the team are here because of the fans and we will never say thank you enough to them.

"For the fans it is a way of talking to the players because unfortunately we don't get to meet them everyday. It's a way for them to tell us that they appreciate the work we are doing and the fact that they love us as a player so it's good and we play for them and they sing for us."

Gael was speaking exclusively to Arsenal TV Online's Spotlight programme. Subscribers can see the full feature interview at 8pm (UK time) on Friday as part of our Friday Night Live schedule.
