Cesc Fabregas is already a great player and he will only get better, according to Gael Clichy.

The Arsenal captain was at his dazzling best on Wednesday night, inspiring a 6-0 victory over Braga in the Champions League with two goals, two assists and a midfield masterclass.

The sight of Fabregas in full flow lifted an Emirates Stadium crowd that spent much of the summer hearing speculation over the Spaniard’s future. But he stayed and, in Arsène Wenger's words, has added "a new dimension" to his game.

Clichy doesn't need telling how good his skipper is and he believes there is more to come.

"I think he can get better, he is only 23," said Clichy.

"The guy is already a world champion, a European champion... he has shown he is the best, he has shown he is an Arsenal player and he wants to win games and trophies for us this year.

"People were saying after the summer [speculation] that his mind might be somewhere else but he is showing everyone that he is a great player.

"He has shown everyone that once he is fit and ready to play, he is one of the best. We are glad to have him and we hope he stays for many years."
