Here's another reason for wanting to qualify for the Champions League next season. Arsène Wenger believes it will 'fast-track' the education of his young side.

Arsenal slipped to sixth in the Premiership table over the weekend following the postponement of their game at Portsmouth and Blackburn's win at Sunderland. Tottenham, currently in the fourth and final Champions League place, entertain West Brom this evening. In the light of his words at the weekend, Wenger may even halt his preparations for Tuesday's game with Juventus to have a look.

"I am convinced this Arsenal team is on the way," he said. "But you cannot afford to waste time in this job. That is why we have to be in the Champions League next season.

"This team is so young that they could gain three or four years by being in the Champions League again. That is why I am highly determined to get back into fourth place."
