The format and set-up of the Champions League suits every team in the competition, according to Arsène Wenger.
The Arsenal manager accepts that Europe’s elite club competition can take time to get into its stride but he insists the format has benefits for both established clubs and sides with less European pedigree.
“It works because you look at the amount of money paid by the TV - that means it works,” said Wenger.
“It is a mixture between a league and a cup and whereas before we played two leagues. Now I think they have found the right mixture because it gives the stronger teams a chance to get through the group stage.
“You have to be patient maybe sometimes until the real competition starts but it still gives a chance for the smaller teams to get the big teams and play two games against them. I believe it works quite well.”Copyright 2013 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
