Santi Cazorla feels that a goal against this evening's opponents set him fair for an impressive first season in English football.
The Spanish schemer has adapted superbly to Premier League life, quickly becoming one of the division's most accomplished creative forces. His goal at Anfield on September 2 put the seal on a 2-0 win for the Gunners, and he believes that it gave him the ideal kick-start to life as an Arsenal player.
It was a nice goal, one I will always remember, my first with Arsenal and in a stadium that’s very special like Anfield
He told the Official Matchday Programme: "It was important. Goals always give you confidence. You’re starting in a new team, you want to do everything well so, when you score, everything goes better for you. It was a nice goal, one I will always remember, my first with Arsenal and in a stadium that’s very special like Anfield."
Tonight's task is to replicate that showing - an identical scoreline would go down nicely given Liverpool's proximity to Arsenal in the race for a Champions League berth. Cazorla, though, is quick to sound a note of caution.
"We put in a great performance against then," he says. "Also, they were at an early stage. They had good players but were quite dependent on Luis Suarez in terms of scoring. Now, they have Daniel Sturridge, and Steven Gerrard is a spectacular player. They have gained in confidence and I think it'll be a totally different game."
