Nicklas Bendtner says a healthy rivalry is bringing the best out of the strikers at the Club.

The Dane has returned from injury and after goals against Manchester City and Newcastle United is just one of the frontmen vying for a starting spot ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Summer signing Marouane Chamakh has spearheaded the Arsenal attack impressively so far but with Theo Walcott back among the goals, Robin van Persie getting closer to full fitness and Carlos Vela waiting in the wings, Arsène Wenger has striking options.

And Bendtner says the players are revelling in the competition.

“It brings the best out of all of us,” said the 22-year-old. “You want competition and at a big team like Arsenal there will always be competition for each place.

“As a player you want to play every game and it’s up to the manager to pick the starting eleven. All I can do is give my best to get into the team.

“The way we have played has been fantastic and if we can keep that up it will be great.

“It is going well, we are where we want to be. We like to play together and we like to win games, that is what we try to do.”
