Nicklas Bendtner feels Arsenal’s gameplan to counter Barcelona worked on Wednesday night but admits the Spanish champions “will always create chances” in the second leg.

Arsenal were carved open for David Villa’s opener as the frightening Barcelona attack looked to kill the tie early on. However Arsenal grew in confidence and nullified the threat of Lionel Messi and co in the second half.

If Arsène Wenger’s side can shut out Barcelona in the Nou Camp then a place in the Champions League Quarter-Finals will be theirs. But Bendtner knows that will be easier said than done.

“Barcelona is a team that is always going to create chances,” said the Dane “But I think we had a great gameplan and it worked well.”

“We knew that Barca are a team that play a lot through the middle so we tried to stop that and get them on the flanks because they aren’t a team that delivers too many crosses.

“They are so dangerous when they do get through the middle, as we saw today when it happened on a few occasions.

“They will always create chances so we need to stop that and counter. It’s still going to be a very tough game.”
