Bendtner - I want to repay Wenger faith

By Nick Teale

Nicklas Bendtner wants to repay Arsène Wenger's faith and show the Arsenal manager that he made the right choice not to sign a new striker in January.

The Gunners were linked with a number of players during the recent transfer window but the Frenchman insisted that he didn't necessarily have to buy - because Bendtner was about to return from injury.

The Dane spent almost three months on the sidelines before returning in Arsenal's 0-0 draw with Aston Villa last month and scored his first goal since his comeback in Saturday's 2-0 win over Sunderland.

The striker has featured in all but one Gunners game since the Villa fixture, and could play a vital part in the Club's hunt for Premier League and Champions League glory this term.

The 22-year-old says he was pleased that Wenger showed such strong faith in him by not acquiring a new striker, and is now keen to prove his decision was the correct one.

"Yes and that's really important," claimed Bendtner. "All I have to do now is show him he made the right choice. I'm sure he has and I've got to show it on the pitch.

"It's difficult obviously being out, despite whoever else is out. It's difficult. Coming back for me was really important."
