Ossie Ardiles commented ‘It is truly a great honour for me to be inducted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame and to be in the company of other Tottenham legends such as Danny Blanchflower, Dave Mackay, Jimmy Greaves and Glenn Hoddle.’

Trevor Brooking said ‘It was a wonderful surprise and great honour to hear I have been voted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame. To be selected by a panel led by my heroes Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Tom Finney is very special. I am particularly delighted to be joining my West Ham team mates Bobby Moore, Sir Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters along with England team mate Kevin Keegan in the Hall of Fame.’ Marianne Spacey commented ‘It was a great honour playing for England. To join the likes of Hope Powell, Pauline Cope and Lily Parr in the National Football Museum Hall of Fame feels just as special.’

The Hall of Fame is now in its eighth year.  Players and managers inducted in previous years include legends such as George Best, Terry Venables, Sir Bobby Charlton and Jimmy Greaves.

The event has grown over recent years and the London evening is one of three being held throughout the country, the others being held in Birmingham and Manchester.

Museum Manager, David Pearson said ‘Our Hall of Fame is going from strength to strength. Last year we held two events, one in London and one in Liverpool, as part of the Capital of Culture celebrations.  We wanted to build on the success of last year’s London event and have decided to once again return to the capital.  We expect many of the inductees and their families to attend on the evening alongside existing members of the Hall of Fame.  As ever it promises to be a brilliant night for fans of the game.’ He continued ‘We are also delighted that for the first time the evening is being filmed for broadcasting nationally on Sky Sports at a later date.’

Gordon Taylor, OBE, Chief Executive of the Professional Footballers Association who have supported the event since it started said ‘The PFA has been proud to be involved in the National Football Museum Hall of Fame since its inception in 2002 as both a sponsor and on the Selection Panel, selecting the legends of our great game and affording them the recognition they deserve.’

Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive of the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), main sponsors of the Hall of Fame commented: ‘The NWDA is pleased to provide its support for the National Football Museum Hall of Fame, which commemorates the outstanding achievements of some of football's greatest players. Sport plays an important part in the cultural life of the Northwest, as well as making a valuable contribution to the regional economy. As the birthplace of professional football, it is extremely fitting that the Northwest is the home of the Hall of Fame, helping to raise the profile of our sporting region to a national audience.’

The team and manager awards are this year taking place in Manchester and two special Aston Villa awards will be presented at the event in Birmingham.
