Nacer Barazite... on loan at Derby County until new year

Barazite – I can follow Simpson’s example

By Matt Fortune

The accomplishments of Jay Simpson at Millwall last season will serve as an inspiration for another ambitious young Gunner over the coming months.

It was announced earlier this week that Nacer Barazite will play on loan at Championship outfit Derby County until the New Year; a step the forward hopes will strengthen his chances of making it at Arsenal.

Barazite first came to prominence 12 months ago with a goal in the pre-season friendly against Barnet. He repeated the feat this year but inbetween came two Carling Cup appearances and a place on the bench for the final Premier League fixture of the season.

He is certainly heading in right direction and now he hopes to follow Simpson’s path.

During the summer the 19-year-old returned from a year-long stint at The New Den. The Englishman came back a much-improved footballer and with the award for League One Player of the Season tucked under his arm. As a result, he spent pre-season with the first-team, including 10 days out in Austria on an intense training camp.

“I take a lot from Jay Simpson in the fact that he went on loan, became more mature and is now getting his chances,” Barazite told Arsenal.com before the move to Derby was announced. “I feel that I can achieve that sort of thing. A loan would only make me a better player, like Jay has been since he came back. Hopefully I can make those steps as well.

“I was really disappointed not to make it on the flight to the training camp [in Austria],” he went on. “When I saw the list and I wasn’t on it, it was upsetting. But that’s football.

“Since then I have put so much effort into training and the games, so that I can prove to the boss that I can be a success here. Hopefully he will see that I am trying to improve everything in my game, that I can play football his way and work hard for the team with or without the ball.

“In the last few games, not just Huddersfield (where Barazite grabbed the winner) but also for the Reserves, I have been practicing my role for the whole team [working] off the ball. I have learnt to go into games with a different mental attitude. That means working hard.

"After that my football will do the talking.”
