Mikel Arteta says Arsenal must put Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Schalke behind them and bounce back against QPR on Saturday.

Second-half goals from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Ibrahim Afellay consigned Arsenal to their first home Champions League defeat against foreign opposition in almost a decade.

Arteta was frustrated at the team’s performance, and intends to channel his disappointment into a positive performance in Saturday’s London derby.

“It was a really tough game for both sides,” he said. “There wasn’t a big difference between the sides and we conceded a sloppy goal because we can’t leave Huntelaar in the penalty area just free like this.

“To be honest they did really well, using the full back as well and they created some chances from there.

“We have to put this night behind us. We have a very important game on Saturday against QPR. We have to bounce back after two defeats. There’s not any question about that.”
