When Arsenal were paired with Juventus in the Champions League, thoughts turned initially to Patrick Vieira's imminent reunion and then to the golden memories of previous meetings with the Bianconeri.

Twenty-six years before Arsenal became the first English club to beat Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, they became the first English side to beat Juventus on their own patch. Substitute Paul Vaessen headed the only goal two minutes from time to take Arsenal into the Cup Winners' Cup Final.

That victory followed a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Highbury. A twice-taken penalty gave Juventus the lead but Roberto Bettega, having put David O'Leary out of the game, put through his own net to throw the Gunners a lifeline. Vaessen ensured they took full advantage.

The Gunners came out on top in 1980 but the spoils were shared in the Group Stage of the 2001/02 Champions League. Thierry Henry's sumptuous free-kick crowned a 3-1 victory for Arsenal at Highbury but Marcelo Zalayeta scored the only goal in Turin four months later.

With two wins and a draw from those four matches, Arsenal have a record to be proud of against the Old Lady of Italian football. Read on for full details from each of those games.
