Robert Pires is set to join Aston Villa, according to the Premier League club's official website.
The Arsenal legend has been training with his former club to maintain his fitness after being released by Villarreal in the summer. His old boss Arsène Wenger has claimed that Pires would be an asset to a top-flight team and Villa's new manager Gerard Houllier clearly agrees.
Pires scored 84 goals in 284 appearances for Arsenal between 2000 and 2006. He was named Footballer of the Year in 2002 and was part of the 'Invincibles' squad that completed an unbeaten Premier League campaign in 2003/04.
Now 37, Pires is already on a collision course with the Gunners - Wenger's side visit Villa Park on November 27.Copyright 2016 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source
