Manuel Almunia says there will be no height problem in the Arsenal defence this season.
Over the course of the summer, Arsène Wenger has sold Kolo Toure and brought in Thomas Vermaelen. Both centre backs measure 6ft and therefore the overall height of the Arsenal defence has stayed the same. Something critics say will not address a perceived problem at set-pieces.
But according to Almunia, the effectiveness of the backline in front of him is not determined by their size.
“At the beginning of last season, we had tall people and we still had problems,” said the keeper.
“It’s not a issue of having tall people, it’s a issue of attitude. How you face the ball and are focused on the game in every single moment.”
