Former Gunner Marc Overmars has been appointed as technical director at Ajax.

The 39-year-old will be responsible for transfers, the club's youth department and scouting. He joins Henri van der Aat and Jeroen Slop on the board of directors.

Overmars made his name with Ajax as a player, winning the European Cup in 1995 before joining Arsenal two years later.

The winger thrived under Arsène Wenger's management and was a major part of the squad that won the League and FA Cup Double in 1997/98.

Overmars made 142 appearances for Arsenal and scored 41 goals before leaving for Barcelona in 2000. He also won 86 caps for Holland.
