Benik Afobe has suffered a knee injury while playing on loan at Millwall.

The 20-year-old forward sustained the injury to his left knee in a Championship match against Wolverhampton Wanderers at The Den. Subsequent investigations have confirmed a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Afobe, who had been on loan at Millwall since February will now return to Arsenal and will undergo surgery shortly. He is expected to be out of action until the autumn.

The England Under-21 international, who was part of Arsenal’s first team squad for the 2012 pre-season tour of Asia, spent the first six months of this season on loan with Bolton Wanderers, where he made 23 appearances, scoring three times.

Everyone at Arsenal wishes Benik a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him on the pitch again soon.
