Emmanuel Adebayor joined the upper echelons of Tottenham tormentors when he struck in the 64th minute on Wednesday night. The goal, his eighth against Spurs, moved the Togolese hitman level with Robert Pires and Alan Sunderland on goals scored against the old enemy.
After drawing a blank in his first outing against Spurs on April 22, 2006, the forward has now scored eight in his last seven matches. The pick of the strikes came last season at White Hart Lane as Adebayor swivelled before thundering a volley into the top corner. The fierce effort went on to win goal of the season 2007/08.
The 24-year-old bagged a brace at White Hart Lane in 2007 but Alan Sunderland went one better in his first meeting with the men from the lane, hitting a hat-trick in a famous 5-0 win back in 1978. The Yorkshireman went on to score five more in 11 appearances against Tottenham
Robert Pires scored his eight goals from the left wing and he memorably hit the fifth goal in Arsenal’s 5-4 victory at White Hart Lane in November 2004. The Frenchman struck his eight goals in 12 games, four more than Adebayor.
